Tubberclair

Tubberclair is a place in the County of Westmeath, between Ballymahon and Athlone.

It is a parish roughly 7 miles from Athlone which includes the villages of Glasson and Ballykeeran. It is home to a Primary School, Community Centre, Heritage Centre, Shops, Pubs, Restaurants and many small businesses including marinas. Tubberclair is a large sprawling parish with a population of approx 1000 people. It borders Lough Ree for 10 miles on the Westmeath side and is reputed to be the centre of Ireland with a monument supposedly depicting this in the heart of the parish. it is also home to Tubberclair GAA football club which boasts a rich history in county Westmeath and has provided many county players over the years. It is also home to the Glasson Golf Hotel and Country Club. The name Tubberclair comes from the Gaelic Tobar an Chlair (meaning the well of St Clair) showing its history with many ancient churches and monasteries dotted throughout the parish.
