Tsz Wan Shan (traditional Chinese: 慈雲山) is a residential area in New Kowloon, Hong Kong. It is administratively part of Wong Tai Sin district, and is located at the foot of the Temple Hill. (Note that the Temple Hill is called Tsz Wan Shan 慈雲山 as well, but normally Tsz Wan Shan refers to the residential area)
It is a densely populated residential area for the working class, consisting of several large public housing estates. In the past, it had been infamous for its large number of crime, and the youth gangsters. The infamy has been wiped off when the old Tsz Wan Shan Estate (consists of 64 buildings) had been demolished by mid-1990s, since the poor design of the old Estate provided a good environment for the gangsters. The Estate has since been rebuilt after the demolition.[citation needed]
In the very northern part of the district, there is a steep path heading to a Guanyin temple. The path is heading for the Temple Hill, part of the Ma On Shan Country Park. The path then joins the MacLehose Trail and the Wilson Trail, which can reach most parts of the New Territories.
[edit] Transport
The only way to the area is by bus (mainly served by KMB) or minibus (i.e. No. 37M from Wong Tai Sin, No. 19M from Diamond Hill & No. 73M from Kowloon Tong). The area is located on a hilly site, so there are no railway connections to the area.
