[edit] Works of the Nigerian government

Hi. I saw where you created {{PD-NigerianGov}} and I fixed the categories for the template. Then I took a look at the law cited on the template. Section 4 says:

Copyright shall be conferred by this section on every work, which is eligible for copyright and is made by or under the direction or control of the Government, a State authority or prescribed international body.

Section 9.5 says:

Copyright conferred by section 4 of this Act, shall vest initially in the Government on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in the State authority on behalf of the State in question, or in the international body in question, as the case may be, and not in the author.

Are you certain that works of the government of Nigeria are public domain? From my reading of this, they don't appear to be. --BigDT 03:07, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Ok ... I took a look at that section. I don't think it's saying that government works are PD, though. It looks like the "second schedule" is their version of fair use. In other words, it is saying that if the government wants to use your work, it is automatically considered fair use.
Section 5 gives the rights that apply to the copyright holder - to publish it, perform it, make derivative works, sublicense it, etc. The second schedule is saying that those rights discussed in section 5 don't occur in this list of cases. In other words, if you write a book, you can't stop someone from making a braille version of it (s), discussing it on the news (n), or used for educational purposes (h). It isn't saying that these acts are public domain, though.
So I'm sorry, but I don't think we can use these things as public domain UNLESS the copyright has expired. Schedule 1 says that photographs expire 50 years after publication and government artistic works other than photographs are PD 70 years after publication. --BigDT 15:07, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism reversion

Tsadori said: Thanks for being so vigilant! (i.e. fixing the Niger Delta Development Commission page).

You're very welcome. I caught the vandalism first time around, but the second time, the robot got there before me. All hail our computerized overlords, I guess..! All the best. Bobo. 02:01, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:NASS-Mace.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:NASS-Mace.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:43, 24 June 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 14:43, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:NASS-Mace.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:NASS-Mace.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. PxMa 00:48, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:NASS-Mace.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:NASS-Mace.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 13:27, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:NigerianMinFinance-logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:NigerianMinFinance-logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 20:40, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Nigerian-House-of-Representatives1.JPG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Nigerian-House-of-Representatives1.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. [edit] AfD nomination of National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control

An editor has nominated National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:59, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
