Tryphon Zarezan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
St. Tryphon Zarezan (Tryphon the Trimmer) (born c. 225 in Phrygia) was a Christian healer and is now the Eastern Orthodox patron saint of wine.[1]
[edit] Festival
Tryphon's feast day is officially 1 February, but it it celebrated by Bulgaria vine growers on 14 February per the Julian calendar.[1] The celebrations are a fertility rite intended to encourage the growth of the vines, and it is also thought that human infertility can be cured on this day.[2]
