Truth and Soul is the second album by alternative rock band Fishbone, released on September 13, 1988. In 1999, it was named by Spin magazine as one of the most influential alternative rock albums of all time.[citation needed] It features a wide array of genres, including reggae, soul, funk, ska, folk, R&B, blues, and heavy metal. The album begins with a hard rock version of Curtis Mayfield's Super Fly classic "Freddie's Dead".
The title is derived from the ad agency in Robert Downey Sr.'s film Putney Swope.[citation needed]
