[edit] Plot overview

Trunks first appears in the Android Saga as an infant, where he is revealed to be the son of Bulma and Vegeta.[2]

Years later in the Majin Boo Saga Trunks is shown to be able to transform into a Super Saiyan a transformation that was thought only to be attainable through intensive training of the body and emotions.[3] He trains with his father, Vegeta for the Tenkaichi Budokai, a martial arts tournament that occurs every three to five years in the series. In the tournament, Trunks easily breezes through the kid's division of the tournament, and defeats his friend, Son Goten in the finals.[4]

After the tournament, Trunks and Goten watch as Vegeta fights the recently released Majin Boo.[5] Trunks and Goten attempt to help Vegeta but are knocked out by Vegeta and taken away by Piccolo and Kuririn as Vegeta sacrifices himself in an attempt to kill Boo.[6] However, the effort is in vain as Boo regenerates while Vegeta dies from the aftershock of the attack.[7]

In a desperate attempt to save the world from Boo, Son Goku teaches Goten and Trunks a technique that allows them to fuse into Gotenks. He uses his fusion with Goten to battle Boo several times, even attaining Super Saiyan 3.[8] However, Gotenks was not powerful enough to defeat Boo and was absorbed.[9] Trunks and Goten are rescued from Boo by Goku and Vegeta, but are killed when Kid Boo destroys the Earth. Trunks is later brought back to life by the Dragon Balls, along with the rest of Earth's inhabitants, to give energy to Goku's Genki Dama attack.[10] The attack manages to destroy Boo and Trunks returns to a normal life on Earth.[11]

In Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon, Trunks befriends Tapion, who gives Trunks a sword.

In Dragon Ball GT, Trunks, Goku and Pan, travel to various planets in search of the Black Star Dragon Balls. He also participates in battles against fictional supervillains such as the space parasite Babi, the artificial human Super 17 and the evil dragon, Yi Xing Long.

[edit] Abilities

Like other characters in the Dragon Ball franchise, Trunks has an assortment of abilities that aid him in battle:

  • Trunks can also combine with his friend, Son Goten, to become Gotenks via fusion.
  • Trunks can transform into a Super Saiyan, a form that increases Trunks's power immensely.[3] Trunks is shown to be able to transform at a very young age, which was quite uncanny compared to other Saiyans in the series who had to undergo intense training to become Super Saiyans.[3]

[edit] Appearances in other media

[edit] Video games

Trunks has appeared in various Dragon Ball-related video games such as Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2. In many of these games, Trunks is a playable character and can turn into a Super Saiyan.

[edit] Reception

Trunks' first presentation in the storyline as Future Trunks was one of the most popular characters of the manga and anime.[citation needed] Though fans were happy that he had a large role in the Majin Buu Saga many were disappointed about his career and personality in Dragon Ball GT.[citation needed]
