Truganina is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Its Local Government Areas are the City of Wyndham and the Shire of Melton.
Truganina and nearby suburb Tarneit are both new to the urban sprawl, but they are actually very old suburbs, dating back to when the land was first divided into suburbs around Wyndham.

[edit] Naming Truganina
It is believed that the suburb Truganina was named after Truganini, the Tasmanian Aboriginal Elder who spent a short time in the area.
[edit] Urban Sprawl
Truganina and surrounds are growing fast because they lie in a good location, being close to the major manufacturing areas in Laverton and the proposed business park on a place that used to be part of Williams RAAF base.
Truganina used to be more of a prospect for urban sprawl though, but reduced catchment in Melbourne makes it unlikely that plans will be made for land to the north of Leakes Road. There were once ideas for a railway line to be built here, but now that may never be.
[edit] Northern Industry
Parts of Truganina before planned for housing, are now thought as new areas for industrial zones, these planned areas lie northwards and eastwards of the new housing zones in southern Truganina.
