[edit] Lead sentence

Please help! I am trying to rewrite to avoid "Jewish writer". I'll leave Slim a note since she is very knowledgeable about these things. Thanks, --Tom 13:55, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Why are you trying to avoid it? SlimVirgin (talk) 20:13, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Per wp:mosbio, ethnicity should generally not be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. It's about standardizing the lead sentence of bios. It just seems like it can be worded better without compromising the subject's accomplishments or the subjects themselves. I will try not to revert any bios that are "questionable" unless there is wider agreement on the manual of style issue. She was an American citizen, correct? Thanks, --Tom 12:27, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Why do you feel that this is not relevant to her notability? SlimVirgin (talk) 12:37, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
To be honest, I am not that sure. Again, its about the "phrasing". Is her ethnicity why she is notable or is it her body of work in that field? Rather than "Joe was a Jewish painter" I would preffer "Joe was a painter specializing in Jewish subject matter" or "Joe was a painter of Jewish descent" ect. Is Jewish a nationality? I guess historically it was? Anyways, I will deffer to others. Its amazing how much I am learning about Jewish Feminism :) Cheers! --Tom 13:10, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
