Quick Bio
I received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 1985 and specialized in semiconductors, cryptography and network security. My colleagues and I created some of the worlds first public key cryptographic chips working with and Certicom and the University of Waterloo. I managed security teams for Newbridge Networks and Alcatel; and started a network security company called TimeStep with Brett Howard and Tim Hember. At TimeStep we pioneered VPN gateways and wrote many of the IETF standards in use today. I joined Certicom Corporation in 2002 to head up Marketing and am now responsible for licensing Certicom’s intellectual property.
I've learned a great deal about intellectual property (what it is and what it is not). I started a Wiki called Wikinvents which hopes to clarify IP and gives people the opportunity to post their own inventions for anyone to use. Check it out and let me know what you think.
I owe a great deal to Scott Vanstone, the best teacher I've ever had. He taught me mathematics and everything there is to know about cryptography.
