Troutville is a town in Botetourt County, Virginia, United States. The population was 432 at the 2000 census.

The town of Troutville was established in 1956. In 1881, this area had no name. The railroad came through and a station was built. There were three houses then which were occupied by the brothers John, Jim, and George Trout - so the area was called Troutsville. It became an important shipping center in the 1890's. In 1895, Troutville was a thriving town with a very active shipping point, good farming, busy canneries, packing houses and factories. The name of the town was later changed to Troutville.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 432 people, 194 households, and 135 families residing in the town. The population density was 486.3 people per square mile (187.4/km²). There were 202 housing units at an average density of 227.4/sq mi (87.6/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.45% White, 0.69% African American, and 1.85% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.46% of the population.
There were 194 households out of which 26.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.8% were married couples living together, 6.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.4% were non-families. 26.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.23 and the average family size was 2.69.
In the town the population was spread out with 19.0% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 27.1% from 45 to 64, and 19.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 94.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.7 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $37,778, and the median income for a family was $40,208. Males had a median income of $26,484 versus $19,000 for females. The per capita income for the town was $17,807. About 9.2% of families and 8.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.1% of those under age 18 and 19.4% of those age 65 or over.
