Tropinesterase

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In enzymology, a tropinesterase (EC 3.1.1.10) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction

atropine + H2O \rightleftharpoons tropine + tropate

Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are atropine and H2O, whereas its two products are tropine and tropate.

This enzyme belongs to the family of hydrolases, specifically those acting on carboxylic ester bonds. The systematic name of this enzyme class is atropine acylhydrolase. Other names in common use include tropine esterase, atropinase, and atropine esterase.
