[edit] Bankruptcy
On May 5, 2008, Tropicana Entertainment filed voluntary petitions for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code so it could work to maximize the value of the its assets through a comprehensive restructuring.[1][2] The Amelia Belle Casino and the Tropicana Atlantic City were not included in the filing.[3]
The company has suffered several setbacks, caused in part by the cost of the Aztar acquisition and the subsequent loss of the license to operate its casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
[edit] History
In May of 2006, Tropicana Entertainment acquired the Tropicana Resort & Casino Las Vegas from then publicly-traded Aztar Corporation for approximately $2.1 billion in cash. The acquisition was approved by the Nevada Gaming Commission on November 17, 2006 and was completed in December of that year.

- The parent company was stripped of its operating license by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission on December 12, 2007, for failure to comply with commission regulations and "lack of business ability...financial responsibility...and a lack of good character, honesty, and integrity." [4] The action forced the company to put the casino up for sale. Tropicana Entertainment is fighting the ruling on multiple legal fronts.
