IMDb profile |
Troll 2 is a low budget 1990 horror film, directed by Claudio Fragasso, under the pseudonym Drake Floyd. During production, the film was known as Goblins, and some foreign releases of the movie were labeled as such, but upon release in the United States, the title was changed to "Troll 2" in an attempt help better sell the film by connecting it to an established horror movie, the 1986 Empire Pictures film Troll. The two films, however, have no connection apart from the title and the striking similarities in design for the faces of the title creatures. In fact, despite the title, no actual trolls appear in Troll 2
The plot concerns an American family, the Waits family, who are taking a trip to the country, to visit a small town called "Nilbog," but are plunged into a nightmare as they are relentlessly pursued by vegetarian Goblins, who turn people into plants before they eat them. The cast includes Michael Stephenson, George Hardy, Margo Prey, Connie Young (in the film's credits she is credited with her maiden name, Connie McFarland) and Jason F. Wright.

[edit] Reception
The noticeably low-budget Troll 2 is widley considered to be of poor quality. The goblins' costumes, designed by cult exploitation actress Laura Gemser, consist of burlap clothes stuffed with foam rubber, and latex masks, only one of which featured a movable mouth and the musical score consists of only a few synthesized themes repeated numerous times. In addition, the acting and dialogue have becoming notorious for their camp value. As of 16 April, 2008, it is ranked at 42nd place on IMDb's bottom 100 movies of all time.
Despite, or perhaps because of, its poor quality, the film has developed a cult status that is comparable to The Rocky Horror Picture Show in that showings of the film have been subject to many fan rituals, including: throwing of popcorn and bologna sandwiches, counting out loud during the "30 second" scene, sing alongs, dressing up in costumes, and shouting and mimicking of lines.
Troll 2 was recently given RiffTrax treatment by Michael J. Nelson (of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fame) and special guest Richard Kyanka from Something Awful.
The movie was filmed in Morgan, Utah. On June 27 - 29, 2008, there will be a MAJOR Troll 2 event taking place in Morgan called NILBOG INVASION (http://www.bestworstmovie.com/invasion), where much of the cast as well as the writers and director of the film will be on hand to screen several movies and take part in games, activities and a TROLL 2-based feast.
[edit] Plot
The Waits family goes on a vacation to a town called Nilbog, (which is "goblin" spelled backwards) and are savagely attacked by goblins.
One infamous scene in the film involves an incident in which Joshua sees his family about to dine upon a feast prepared for them by the goblins. Joshua is informed by the ghost of his grandfather that this food will turn his family into a plant-like material for the vegetarian goblins to eat. The ghost inexplicably freezes time to help prevent this tragedy, and Joshua now has a short time before they become unfrozen to find a way to prevent them from consuming the food. Joshua stands upon the table and unzips his fly to urinate on the food, mere seconds before his family is unfrozen. The film cuts to shortly thereafter, and the family is throwing away the food, shocked at what he has done (although not at all confused about how he stood up on the table and peed on their food without them realizing it). Joshua's father takes him into a back room and reprimands him for his action. The father shows his son handwritten signs from the owners of the house they are staying at, and says: "Do you see this writing? Do you know what it means? Hospitality! And you can't piss on hospitality! I won't allow it!" The father then proceeds to tighten his belt one notch so that he won't feel hunger pangs.
In the end, the family escapes the domain of the goblins and returns home. Joshua, upon entering his own house, discovers that the goblins are waiting for them and sees his mother being devoured by them. The goblin looks at Joshua, smiles, and asks, out of sync, "Do you want some, Joshua?" Joshua then screams.
