This species is endemic to the Northland region in the North Island of New Zealand.

[edit] Habitat

This top snail is found at depths of about 13 m.

[edit] Shell description

The shell of this species is much smaller than Trochus viridis, also tall-spired, but the base is not quite flat. The dorsal sculpture is of four or five strong spiral ribs, crossed by dense lamellose axial riblets. The base has five or six strong spiral cords. The false-umbilicus has a single massive spiral fold within. The columella has a denticulate fold above, separated from the parietal wall by a cleft.

Shell coloration is bright rose, often with broad radial maculations in deeper rose. The base is buff, tesselated with light brown, and the interior of the false-umbilicus is iridescent.

The height is up to 11 mm, and width up to 12 mm.
