- December 1, 1960 - Typhoon Ophelia reached its peak with 250 km/h (155 mph) winds just after passing over the Carolina Islands. Many of the islands were severely flooded.
- December 2, 2005 - Hurricane Epsilon (pictured) became a hurricane in the central Atlantic, becoming the record fifteenth hurricane of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season.
- December 3, 1972 - Typhoon Therese made its landfall in the Philippines. Therese killed a total of 90 people.
- December 4, 2003 - Tropical Storm Odette (pictured) formed to the south of Jamaica in the Caribbean Sea. Odette would later cause minor damage in the Lesser Antilles
- December 5, 1898 - US President William McKinley (pictured) ordered the Weather Bureau to create a hurricane warning network, which would eventually become the National Hurricane Center.

- December 6, 1983 - Hurricane Winnie (pictured) reached its peak in the eastern Pacific. Winnie is the latest forming Pacific hurricane on record.
- December 7, 1975 - Cyclone Joan (pictured) reached its peak in the Timor Sea with sustained winds of 230 km/h (145 mph). Joan caused about $25 million of damage in the Port Hedland, Western Australia area.

- December 8, 2002 - Typhoon Pongsona (pictured) hit Guam, and is among the strongest and costliest typhoons to hit the island. Pongsona caused $700 million of damage on the island.
- December 9, 2003 - Tropical Storm Peter (pictured) reached its peak with winds of 70 mph (110 km/h) in the central Atlantic Ocean. Peter never affected land.
- December 10, 1949 - The Typhoon of December 1949 reached its peak with winds of 155 km/h (100 mph) off the Philippine coast.
- December 11, 1998 - Cyclone Thelma (pictured) made landfall in the Kimberley region of Western Australia as a Category 3 cyclone. Thelma brought heavy rain to much of the region.

- December 12, 2007 - Tropical Storm Olga (pictured) crosses Hispaniola, causing 40 deaths along its path from heavy rainfall.
- December 13, 1956 - Typhoon Polly made landfall in the Philippines, killing 79 and causing $2.5 million in damage.
- December 14, 1999 - Cyclone John (pictured) strengthened to a Category 5 cyclone, before crossing the Pilbara region of Western Australia coast between Karratha and Port Hedland, bringing strong winds and heavy rain to the region.
- December 15, 1965 - The 1965 Pakistani Cyclone hit the Pakistan coast near Karachi, killing over 10,000 people.
- December 16, 1997 - Typhoon Paka (pictured) hit Guam causing $236 million in damage on the island. A gust of 236 mph (380 km/h) was recorded on the island, which if confirmed would have been the highest non-tornadic wind ever recorded on the surface of the Earth.
- December 17, 1944 - Typhoon Cobra (pictured) hit the US Navy Task Force 38 east of Luzon in the Philippine Sea. The storm sank three destroyers and killed 790 sailors.
- December 18, 1959 - Typhoon Gilda made landfall on the eastern Philippine coast, killing 23 and making 230,000 people homeless.
- December 19, 1998 - Tropical Depression 02F brought 550 mm (22 inches) of rain to Tahiti while the storm was about 500 km (300 miles) from the island.

- December 20, 1984 - Hurricane Lili (pictured) reached its peak strength with 80 mph (130 km/h) winds in the central Atlantic Ocean. Hurricane Lili is the longest lasting off-season Atlantic hurricane on record.
- December 21, 1994 - Tropical Storm Bobbie reached its peak strength with 95 km/h (60 mph) winds in the open Pacific Ocean. Bobbie brought heavy rain to some islands in Micronesia.
- December 22, 1979 - Tropical Storm Ben reaches its peak with 110 km/h (70 mph winds just off the western Philippine coastline.

- December 23, 2001 - Typhoon Faxai (pictured) reached its peak strength in the open Pacific and never closely approached land.
- December 24, 1971 - Cyclone Althea (track pictured) hit north Queensland, Australia causing $115 million of damage.
- December 25, 1974 - Cyclone Tracy (pictured) hits Darwin, Australia. Tracy kills 71 people and is the costliest Australian cyclone on record.
- December 26, 2001 - Tropical Storm Vamei (pictured) formed to the east of Singapore at a latitude of 1.4° north, becoming the closest tropical cyclone formation to the equator.
- December 27, 2004 - Cyclone Chambo reaches its peak strength with 155 km/h (100 mph) winds in the southwestern Indian Ocean.
- December 28, 2002 - Cyclone Zoe (pictured) reached its peak with a central pressure of 890 hPa (mbar), making it the most intense tropical cyclone on record in the Southern Hemisphere
- December 29, 1996 - Cyclone Phil reached its peak strength after crossing parts of northern Australia.
- December 30, 1954 - Hurricane Alice (pictured) formed in the eastern Caribbean, becoming the latest tropical cyclone to form in the Atlantic basin. Alice would later pass through the Lesser Antilles causing minor damage there.
- December 31, 1954 - A tropical cyclone hit land near Roebourne, Western Australia, causing damage in excess of £50,000.
