Stubsensor never edits an article; only humans do. Welcome to another stub cleanup project by Triddle and Andrew Rodland. Here you can get information about volunteering to help remove the stub tag from articles that are really not stubs; this cleanup project is made possible by stubsensor. Continue reading for further instructions.
[edit] How to help
The task is to remove the {{stub}} tag (or one of its relatives) from the listed articles on which it does not belong. This is really the key; it would be simple to make a computer program to remove the tag from each article but this is not what should be done. A human really needs to make a decision to remove that stub tag or not.
Sometimes it can be difficult to judge if an article is a stub or not. In this case the safest thing to do is just to ignore the article. We will run across it again and at that time it might be more clear. In general stubs will be short, 3 to 10 sentences long. However there is no rigid rule for stub or article length. It is possible an article for a simple subject can completely cover it in only 10 sentences. It is also possible that a stub for a complex topic may be much larger than 10 sentences.
The stub tag is a good way to indicate an article is one that your average person would be able to conduct research on and expand. If further expansion of the article requires college education or fundamental understandings of the concepts then the {{expand}} template is probably the best choice. A stub is certainly not just an article that needs work: if the article has more than a stub worth of information but needs to be cleaned up, remove the stub tag and put {{cleanup}} at the top of the article.
If you are not sure if an article is a stub, you can also look at the pages of the wikiproject(s) of which the article is a part. Wikiprojects will often list more specific conditions on when articles of a certain kind should be tagged as stubs. You can often find out what wikiproject(s) an article is a part of by looking at the discussion page of the article. A good example is found at Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Assessment, many Start class articles may be mis-tagged as Stubs.
Another useful tag is {{sectstub}} which allows a specific weak section to be tagged instead of an entire article.
If the article is no longer a stub and the stub is the only category the article is in please add the tag {{Uncategorized}} when unstubifying, then a category specialist can help make the article easier to find by adding the appropriate categories.
Articles without references can be tagged with {{unreferenced}}
Other cleanup-related tags may be found at Wikipedia:Template_messages/Cleanup.

- Triddle usually gets a new one a few weeks after the old is done. There is a somewhat similar project at Wikipedia:Unreferenced articles you are welcome to come help there until the next stubsensor is up. Jeepday (talk) 02:51, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Howdy Yall - I'll do the next stubsensor as soon as I can. I just checked the Wikipedia dumps and there seems to be some problem; as it stands right now, the most recent dump is about a month old, a little too old to be effective for the cleanup project. I might not catch the next dump in time either as I'm getting ready for a move to the San Francisco bay area, but I promise it will be back as soon as possible. :-) Triddle 15:06, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
