This has nothing to do with fixing articles but it is a nice photograph.

This is the starting place to help remove the stub template from articles that it should not be on. The list of suspect articles has been generated by stubsensor and tends to be fairly accurate. However humans are being used for this job because a computer can't; please don't remove the stub tag from all the articles you see.

[edit] Your job

These instructions are not official, please use your own best judgement. If you think there is a better criteria or you have an idea for a change that should be done then read this first and modify this section after you have left notes there.

Each case has to be judged independently and only remove a stub if the article really does accomplish something. Most of the articles will be very large and obviously not a stub. This is the easy part. Some of your articles will be on the edge. You can use this as a guideline:

  • If it is more than three paragraphs it is probably not a stub.
  • If it is two paragraphs and a large list, it is probably a stub unless it is descriptive enough so that you know what the article is about.
  • If it is one paragraph or two or three individual sentences then it should be left as a stub.
  • If it is not a stub but still doesn't seem like it is a full article, try putting {{expand}} at the bottom of the article page as well as any ideas you have for how it should be expanded (this is controversial; if you want to understand why see Category talk:Articles to be expanded#Stub vs. Expand and Category talk:Articles to be expanded#Removing text to put template in talk page).
  • If the article needs to be wikified (have simple sections added, turn some words into hyperlinks) be sure to put {{wikify}} in the article too.
  • If its not a stub because its too long but it is still ugly perhaps it needs {{cleanup}}

[edit] How to help

If that hasn't scared you off then thank you for showing an interest in helping; please read this before continuing. To help follow one of the links below and sign your name in a section (don't forget to save), begin checking the articles listed, and when you are done checking the articles please remove the entire section. Each page is split into 25 sections and each section has 20 articles. Each section will take between 10 and 20 minutes to complete. Further instructions are in each individual section.

Here is a tip: go to your preferences then go to the Editing section (on the left). Now check Show preview on first edit and click save. This way when you start working you can click directly on the edit link given, briefly read the article as you scroll down to the edit box, and make your decision. This will save you a lot of time.

Thanks again for your consideration.

[edit] Where to help

You are much more likely to contribute useful work if read at least the Your job section as it tries to address some issues we have run into with other contributors.

  • Thanks everyone for contributing, I look forward to hearing what you think about this project. Here are a couple of things I thought of:
    • I really should link back to the current project in the instructions for each section that offers an example for the edit summary. This should help clear up some confusion. Triddle 21:37, 2 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] False positives

If you get any false positives you can list them here. If you do I might be able to better refine the program so it does not match such articles incorrectly anymore. False positives are either non existent articles or articles that really are stubs. Good rule of thumb with lists is that if the intro paragraph gives an idea of who the person or thing is/was, then its not a stub.
