Tristar Boys F.C.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tristar Boys Football Club is an amateur youth football club based in Derry, Northern Ireland, currently playing in the Derry and District League. The club was founded in 1974 by former Derry City player Jon Clifford.
The club initially began with an Under-11 side, however, the great influx of new members resulted in the club expanding to become one of the biggest junior clubs in the Derry area with a total of 10 teams from 8 year olds upwards competing regularly in various Derry and District youth leagues. The club has also competed successfully in cross-channel competitions both in Britain and further afield, winning a number of competitions in England and Scotland as well as the Mellisant International Youth Tournament in Rotterdam in 1988. Perhaps the clubs greatest honour came in 1982 in Liverpool, when the Tristar Under-14 team won the European 5-a-side title beating England in the final, before 7000 spectators at Anfield. The club has produced many Northern Ireland youth internationals, including current Institute F.C. players David Ogilby and Ryan McIlmoyle and Derry City goalkeeper, Eugene Ferry. The most famous player to pull on a Tristar jersey was Gary Fleming who won almost 30 caps for Northern Ireland whilst playing for Nottingham Forest and Manchester City.
