[edit] Trivia

  • Wolfmother broke a record by having an unprecedented six songs by one artist in one year's countdown (excluding countdowns not limited to a single year): White Unicorn (#84), Colossal (#39), Dimension (#37), Apple Tree (#16), The Joker And The Thief (#9) and Mind's Eye (#6). The record previously was shared by Powderfinger, Queens of the Stone Age, The White Stripes and Silverchair, each with five songs in one year (although they have yet to top an unofficial record set by Dave Grohl in 2002, who co-wrote/played in 10 of the songs on the countdown, with Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters and a previously unreleased song by Nirvana, or the record of 9 songs set by The Cure in the 1991 hottest 100).
  • The 2005 countdown included the longest song yet to feature in the Hottest 100, Green Day's Jesus of Suburbia (#61), at 9:08. The record was previously held by Quindon Tarver/Lee Perry - Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) (#16, 1997) at 7:02 (excluding countdowns not limited to a single year).
  • With What's On Your Radio at #49, The Living End have been in the Hottest 100 for nine years in a row since 1997.
  • Coming in at #1 this year as a solo artist, Bernard Fanning has appeared three times at the top of the list, the other two top placings with his band Powderfinger, in 1999 and 2000.
  • The 2005 list has the lowest amount of variety of artists, with only 60 artists represented in the list.
