Trio Matamoros

Trio Matamoros was one of the most popular early Cuban bands. Formed in 1912 by Miguel Matamoros (guitar), Rafael Cueto (guitar and voice) and Siro Rodriguez (maracas). Trio Matamoros had a unique brand of musical identity called bolero-son. They toured all Latin America and Europe and eventually recorded in New York. In 1940, Guillermo Portabales joined the trio. Beny Moré played with the band from 1945 to 1947. Elements of swing, mambo and rumba were incorporated into the group's sound.
