Tring Corinthians F.C. are a football club based in Tring, England. They were the Aylesbury & District League Premier Division runners-up in 2005. Following an improvement in their ground facilities, they were promoted to the Spartan South Midlands Football League Division Two for the 2005-06 season.

[edit] History

Tring Corinthians Football Club was formed in 1956 by Fred Evans who worked at the local bus station and Mr Tug Wilson, Headmaster of Osmington boarding school. Mr Wilson was heavily involved with Chesham United and was the first President of the club. The reason for forming the club was to provide football for local players unable to get a game with Tring Town Football Club. Most of the original players came from Tring Town.

The club approached the Aylesbury and District League and were accepted with the first season being played in Division Two.

Tring Corinthians first ground was situated in Beaconsfield Road, Tring, which became a housing estate in later years. The conditions were pretty basic, the changing rooms were an old railway carriage with no electricity or running water. Water was fetched from the end bungalow in Beaconsfield Road.

At first Fred Evans picked the team, but in 1958 the Corries expanded to first and reserve teams so a Selection Committee was formed to pick the teams. The Selection Committee met on Monday evenings during the season at the Kings Arms public house. Players would wait in the bar to see the teams posted on the notice board. Those not in attendance were notified bu post. The Kings Arms had a clubroom where A.G.Ms were held. When the pub changed hands the club held its meetings at the George Hotel in the High Street. When the Hotel closed down the club moved to the Royal British Legion until it purchased its own ground.

In the late sixties the club moved to Mortimer Hill School using the pitch adjacent to the allotments and used the school changing rooms. Tring Corinthians moved for a third time in 1975 to the council pitch at Pound Meadow until 1984 when they moved to their current home in Icknield Way.

In January 1981 a tender for the purchase of the ground in Icknield Way was accepted by local estate agents Brown and Merry. This was arable farmland with a small grain store in one corner of the field. The grain store was eventually converted into the current clubhouse with part of the funds for the conversion coming from Dacorum Borough Council. A lot of hard work and fund raising by the clubs committee and members was put into the new ground and clubhouse until the teams were able to play there from late summer 1984.

During the late 1990s the club suffered a series of break-ins which at one point nearly forced the club to close. Thanks to a few loyal members the club kept going and in 2000 expanded to four teams entering a youth league for the first time.
