Trimotor
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A trimotor is an aircraft powered by three piston engines. An aircraft with three jet engines is a trijet.
Trimotor designs were relatively common in the early days of aviation, as engines were less powerful and less reliable.
Notable trimotors include:
- The Fokker F.VII/3m (Netherlands/USA, 1925)
- The Ford Trimotor or "Tin Goose" (USA, 1926)
- The Short S.8 Calcutta flying boat (UK, 1928)
- The Junkers Ju 52/3m or "Iron Annie" (Germany, 1932)
- The Britten-Norman Trislander (UK, 1970)
