Trimethylsilyldiazomethane

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Trimethylsilyldiazomethane, (CH3)3SiCHN2, is an organic compound.

It is a safer alternative for diazomethane used for methylation of carboxylic acids. It is commercially available. It has been employed widely in tandem with GC-MS for the analysis of various carboxylic compounds which are ubiquitous in nature. The fact that the reaction is rapid and occurs so easily in nature makes it attractive. It however forms numerous artifacts complicating spectra interpretation.
