Trikala (Greek: Τρίκαλα) is a town in the eastern part of the Imathia prefecture between the boundaries of Thessaloniki and Pieria prefectures that are about 4 to 5 km away. Its 2001 population was 1,170 for the town. Trikala is also in the municipality of Platy. Trikala are also between the Aliakmon and the Louros rivers. Trikala is linked with the road linking with Koryfi and the Via Egnatia along with the old road that is the GR-4 (Thessaloniki - Veria - Kozani). Trikala is located west-southwest of Thessaloniki, north of Athens and Katerini, east-northeast of Veria, east of Alexandria and southeast of Aridaia.

Trikala was ruled by the Ottoman Empire until the Balkan Wars of 1913, afterwards,it finally joined Greece After World War II and the Greek Civil War, many of its buildings were rebuilt. Some of its residents moved to other parts of Greece and the world. The population dramatically lost between 1981 and 2001.
Electricity and automobiles arrived in the 1960s, it was linked with pavement in the late-20th century, television arrived in the 1980s. Internet and computers arrived in the late-1990s.
Trikala was one of the cities in August 6, 2007 that recorded the most daily rainfall that amounted to about 100 to 120 m in a single day. Several properties were flooded and some residents were stranded.
