Trident Micro Systems

Trident Micro Systems was formed in 1985,recognizing the need for an enhanced airtime logger for trunked radio systems. Trident ’s engineering efforts produced an airtime logger that became the industry standard for the E.F.Johnson LTR system. The RVL-5000,when interfaced to the LTR system, monitored the high-speed data bus for mobile activity. This multi-featured device included remote ID validation, logging of fleet dispatch airtime and interconnect airtime. Later, the TNT (Trident Network Trunking)controller was introduced as a replacement for the existing E.F.Johnson and Uniden basic LTR controllers. At the time, both E.F.Johnson and Uniden offered a simple interconnect called the RIC (Repeater Interconnect Controller)that attached to the logic shelf to form an interconnect channel. The RIC had very limited functionality and features. The TNT was designed to meet requests from our airtime-logging customers to provide them with more features that they could sell to their customers. The TNT incorporated new, enhanced features such as synthesized voice prompts in any language, assigned on a per ID code basis. The entire TNT package was very compact —occupying only one unit of rack space. When cabled with the E.F.Johnson, Uniden or other DCS compatible repeater, the TNT transformed it into a feature-rich LTR trunked repeater package. The TNT and its derivatives continue to provide the industry with reliable trunking solutions, offering features not available from any other source. Trident Micro Systems has deployed LTR trunking controllers throughout the world. The limitations of the LTR trunking protocol and existing hardware inspired the development of the next generation of Trident Micro Systems trunking and networking products. These new products enable the SMR and CMRS industry to take the next step into networkable, expandable analog systems and new, enhanced digital solutions. Calling on over a century of collective communications, trunking and networking experience, Trident developed the NTS.
