Trick or Treat (cartoon)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Trick or Treat is a Disney cartoon released in October 1952, starring Donald Duck. In this cartoon a trick-or-treating Huey, Dewey, and Louie try to shame Donald into giving them candy with the help of Witch Hazel in her first appearance. A print adaptation, drawn by Carl Barks, was published simultaneously in the Donald Duck comic book. Recent reprints of the story have introduced another character named Smorgie the Bad.

The cartoon was the first screen depiction of trick or treating. It is familiar to many because it was included in the television shows A Disney Halloween and Disney's Halloween Treat, which aired in the 1980s and 1990s. It was included as a bonus feature with the Disney "Gold Classics Collection" release of The Black Cauldron in 2000.

In this cartoon, Huey, Dewey, and Louie are costumed (not necessarily respectively) as a ghost, a witch/wizard, and a devil. Perhaps coincidentally, an infamous Jack Chick tract about the "evils" of Halloween features children dressed in the same three costumes.
