The roundworm family Trichuridae includes the genus Trichuris, often referred to as whipworms. The name whipworm refers to the shape of the worm; they look like whips with wider "handles" at the posterior end. The genus Trichuris includes several species that infect the large intestine of their host. Notable species include:
- Trichuris trichiura (sometimes Trichocephalus trichiuris) - causes trichuriasis
- Trichuris vulpis (dog whipworm)
- Trichuris campanula (cat whipworm)
