The roundworm family Trichuridae includes the genus Trichuris, often referred to as whipworms. The name whipworm refers to the shape of the worm; they look like whips with wider "handles" at the posterior end. The genus Trichuris includes several species that infect the large intestine of their host. Notable species of the genus Trichuris include:
- Trichuris trichiura (sometimes Trichocephalus trichiuris) - causes trichuriasis
- Trichuris vulpis (dog whipworm)
- Trichuris campanula (cat whipworm)
- Trichuris suis (pig whipworm)
