TriStar Television

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TriStar Television, or TriStar Pictures Television (first spelled Tri-Star) was an American television production company that was launched on April 2, 1987 by TriStar Pictures (the studio which was then-currently owned by Columbia Pictures, CBS, and HBO). In December 1987, TriStar Television was bought by Columbia Pictures Television, and merged to create the new CPT (as of December 21), although Columbia Pictures and TriStar Pictures were sold in 1989 to Sony Corporation of Japan.

TriStar Television was reestablished in 1991 under Sony Pictures Entertainment. In 1994, TriStar co-launched Columbia TriStar Television (CTT) with Columbia Pictures Television as a joint venture. TriStar Television was folded into CTT in 1999 after Mad About You and The Nanny ended but kept its name until 2000 on Early Edition, while the last season of Malcolm & Eddie was taken over by CTT.

Today, TriStar's TV shows are owned by Sony Pictures Television.
