Tri-State Racetrack and Gaming Center
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tri-State Racetrack, which markets itself under the name "Tri-State Racetrack and Gaming Center" to avoid the connotation with casino gambling, is a "racino" located in an enclave of the city limits of Nitro, West Virginia, although it is actually located several miles from that city and is generally thought of as being in the unincorporated community of Cross Lanes, West Virginia. It is located just off the Cross Lanes exit of I-64, 14 miles west of Charleston, West Virginia and 36 miles east of Huntington, West Virginia.
It features slot machines, which are marketed under the euphemism "video lottery" in West Virginia; live greyhound racing, and off-track betting for both greyhound and horse racing. It features several restaurants and food operations.
The facility has a Mardi Gras theme, similar to that used by the Harrah's chain of casinos, but is not owned by that corporation.
The West Virginia Legislature has authorized a vote in 4 West Virginia Counties, including the Tri-State Racetrack's home inKanawha County, West Virginia, to permit card and dice table games. On August 11, 2007, Kanawah County citizens voted — by a razor thin margin — to allow table games.
