[edit] relation of tripura with rest of india

As mentioned in the article it is true that tripura was incorporated "officially" into india after the independence of india, but the northeast of india was always a part of india just like other parts of india. we should not forget the traditions and cultures which bind all the states of india inspite of the diversity.Borders don't decide integrity, hearts does.

William R. Glad of Norway I understand what is said. I would also like to know a little about the royal family. Whos is the "present" maharaja emeritus - eventually his follower? I went to school in Shillong in the late forties-early fifties and was aware of the family, but never came in contakt. (I was a norwegian boy in an norwegian boradringschool - almost dayly looking at the princess of Triupurawas driven to school. She never stoped the car by the norwegian boradring school and invited me to tea. My childhoods great sorrow. So I am as an old man i Norway interestet in this family.

I must add: I visited Shillong march 2006 and confrimed my love to this state, but has never been to Tripura. Is this still possible??

[edit] Demographics

The "demographics" section had no information on the culture of 70% of the state (the Bengali and Manipuri communities), and so I added that information. Of course, most of the information in that section deals with the tribal communities, as they are unique to the state, but there should at least be a mention of the majority ethnic groups. Someone deleted my addition, but I added it again in a slightly reworded fashion. Please let me know if there is a way I can re-reword it if needed. --SameerKhan 09:15, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Name in Kokborok

Hi Soman,

So what is there to contend with name of Tripura in Kokborok language?

Do you know that TTAADC was governed by INPT (Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra) from 2001 to 2006 and the Tripuri people have always called their land as 'Twipra.

Can you provide me with some reason why the name is contended!!

Local politicians, party names , literature, media, films, magazine and music industry of Tripura in Kokborok language refers to Tripura as Twipra .

The usage of 'Twipra' is a modern political invention. It was proposed as the alternative name by the ethno-nationalists, but has not been universally accepted. The official naming at [1] is clearly 'Tripura'. If the TTAADC uses a different naming, please provide a source for that. --Soman 12:48, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

nice edit to evade the issue (re: script).

The fact that Tripura is called as Twipra in Kokborok language is a reality. If you were a Tripuri you would have known. The Tripuri people never pronounce "tripura' , they always say Tipra or Twipra. The Tripuri people's views do not have much web presence , so sorry if i am not able to provide a proof.

The problem is that 'realities' are often subjective. I have my own subjective understanding, namely that the Twipra is, at least in politics, a relatively new term. For example it was only after the formation of INPT that it was introduced in party names (TUJS always used 'Tripura' in their name). --Soman 14:28, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] External Links

Why is someone acting as an unnecessary authority here in this wikipedia article and blocking additions of valid Wiki external links?

I relinked Profile of Twipra (Tripura) and Information on the culture and life of Tripura at the Delhi Tripura Scoiety's official website, as they are sites run by esteemed organizations of Tripura and Delhi respectively regarding information on the state.
