Please note that "triple junction" also refers to a well known type of thin-film solar cell that uses three layers of silicon as opposed to the more common two layers. I don't, yet, know the best way to put it but we are going to have to be careful with the stability criteria (from kinematics - e.g. RRR is always stable) and our observations of the Earth (RRR triple junctions can form in the early stage of rifting, but then one of the arms stops spreading, the Bay of Biscay is just one example).
