[edit] The Illegal Peter Crouch Goal against T&T
Crouch's goal in the T&T match was clearly illegal. Look at these videos ...

... and this article ...

T&T crumbled after Crouch's illegal goal :-(
Its amazing how many times England get cheated and no one cares(Maradona's hand of god goal) :(
[edit] Selected Famous Players
Selected on any particular basis? Many T&T players are enjoying an increased profile during the build up to the world cup, but can some of these players be meaningfully described as famous, as opposed to in the spotlight at the moment? Kevin McE 17:27, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- All players seem to be selected from the current team, but since this is T&T's first WC, I don't think that should be too unusual. Trimming this list down can be after T&T team's WC is over as any team can still make history. -- Revth 02:02, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
- Encyclopedias are not the place for speculation: including people as famous because they might make history??? Kevin McE 17:22, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wrexham
Should Wrexham have the Welsh flag on it? Wrexham's in the FA. We put a tricolor on Monaco, even though it's not in France. Shouldn't it be the same for teams that compete in the English leagues but are located in Wales? john k 17:15, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- It used to have a Welsh flag - someone changed it to England in the last week or so. Since I didn't know which one was right, I let it stand. By all means, change it back. Guettarda 18:05, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Speaking as someone born in Wrexham, I don't know if you realise quite how offensive it is to see the English flag next to the club's name. The club is Welsh, for over a hundred years the FA of Wales had its headquarters in the town – show the Welsh flag. -- Arwel (talk) 18:38, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- Well, that's a pretty good counter-argument. Note to self: When you know nothing, shut up ;) Guettarda 19:08, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- Well, the one you should be mad at, then, is Wrexham for competing in the English league. The flag represents the league the team plays in, not the country it is from. We put Monaco with the French flag, and I assume we would put San Marino with the Italian flag if there were a player from San Marino on a team. And the "people would be deeply offended" route doesn't work terribly well, since it would lead to inconsistency. Derry City plays in the Republic of Ireland league - are you saying that, because people from Derry would be offended to see the Northern Ireland flag on it, we should keep it with the Republic flag, even though it is in Northern Ireland, but that we should do exactly the reverse for Wrexham/Cardiff City, etc? The purpose of the little flags is to show what league the person plays in, not to cater to the delicate sensitivity of Welsh people. It is misleading to show the Welsh flag, because it implies that the guy is playing in the League of Wales, which is completely incorrect. john k 21:22, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

- I've put suggestion that the flags next to clubs should be that of the national football association with which they are registered with, NOT the nationality of the league structure which they play in. With Wrexham AFC being members of the Football Association of Wales, and all matters being under jurisdiction of the FAW, they should have the Welsh flag next to their name. AS Monaco have the French flag as they are members of the Fédération France de Football, even though they are not French. This is a matter that WikiProject Football needs to finalise in order to prevent such arguments stemming in football articles on here. Jonzi9 (talk) 01:34, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

To clear up some arguments, I have now put the Welsh flag next to Cardiff City, but also added a reference note which states that Wrexham FC are a Welsh club which plays in the English Football League. This will clear some matters up, even though it has been suggested on WP:Football that on the grounds of ambiguity we shouldn't use flags anyway. Jonzi9 (talk) 15:17, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Shaka Hislop
I've just reverted an edit to the "2006 World Cup Squad" section which moved Shaka Hislop from West Ham to FC Dallas. Yes, he's signed for FC Dallas now, but at the time of T&T's WC participation he was a West Ham player. We should be reflecting the situation as it was at the time, not updating sections ex post facto. Similarly Chris Birchall should remain shown as a Port Vale player, not Ipswich, Norwich, Reading, QPR or any of the other teams which have shown interest in him. Note that Kelvin Jack has since signed for Gillingham, but we're still correctly showing him as a Dundee player. -- Arwel (talk) 19:50, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
O.K., but do you mind me asking, us is "we"? Minfo 05:16, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- Huh? "Us is we"? Guettarda 05:17, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- Pardon me, I meant, who is we? Minfo 20:52, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Beenhakker
While the Leo Beenhakker article says that he is now the Polish coach, according to a TT newspaper story (I'll post a link once it has a permanent address in the archives) he is still in negotiation with the TTFF. Any citation to support that he has moved to Poland? Guettarda 02:09, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Tagged as out of date
Such a tagging without any request as to what updates you would wish to see is neither helpful nor constructive. I am glad that this article avoids the extreme recentism of many other international teams' pages, which include data such as next match that by definition would not pass the ten year test. I have been tempted to move the World Cup stuff to another article, perhaps making Trinidad and Tobago at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, but apart from that, what updates would Telcourbanio like to propose? If there are no constructive proposals, I will delete the tag. Kevin McE 11:37, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- Both tasks mentioned above done. Kevin McE 17:29, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Stern John Goals
Soccerbase and other sites have out of date information regarding T&T team caps and goals. Most reliable source are T&T newspapers, in this case the current cap/goal tally was mentioned recently in the Trinidad Express which should supersede other sources. rasadam (talk) 09:19, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- I have no brief to defend Soccerbase, and if the T&T press figure is accurate, then that's fine. Can we be confident that it does not include appearances for under-age or Olympic qualification teams, or for non-international matches (eg pre-season or pre_World Cup matches against club sides)? Kevin McE (talk) 16:43, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
-
- I can't vouch for their accuracy all the time, but I know for sure that Stern John got 100 recognised international caps not too long ago, so Soccerbase is definitely wrong on this one. The problem with these sites is, when they try to track the stats themselves, they don't properly record all the matches. T&T plays a lot of low key matches (like this week's game against Barbados) which are FIFA recognised international friendly matches but are played entirely with locally based players and receive virtually no international press coverage. rasadam (talk) 20:11, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Captain
Who actually is the captain? The info box says Carl Edwards but the squad list says Whitley. I am watchin g the Trinidad/Tobago v England game right now. Both players are playing and Whitley is captaining the side. User:Luke-Samual Ezekiel Cullen —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.104.191.220 (talk) 22:30, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
