Talk:Trinary

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I would imagine the most common usage of the term would be the Ternary number system as opposed to a finctional language. Maybe this could be corrected.

I Agree - I found this page while looking for ternary --Rehnn83 11:17, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Whether or not we change the name of the entry, it might be fair to mention that the term was used in science fiction before David Brin. For example, trinary was the base-three counting system used by the Martians in Robert Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land. I'm less certain of this, but think Heinlein also self-referentially dropped the term into Number of the Beast as the computing language of the self-aware aircar/spaceship, Gay Deceiver. --Sofa King, Monday, 2007-02-26 T 19:15 UTC

[edit] Trinary vs. Ternary

"Trinary" is often used interchangeably for ternary in ternary logic, ternary computers, etc. Is this a misnomer? Or are the two synonymous?
