[edit] NPOV / Citing sources

This article, if it is kept, needs to be cleaned up to conform to Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. Phrases such as "elitist club snobs", "it did become cool because of it", "who is famed for her ability to bring down the IQ of those reading her posts", and "resident postwhore" are not appropriate for an encylopedia. This article also needs more sources, and not just from the forum itself. The article, in general, needs to do a better job establishing the notability of its subject. --Idont Havaname (Talk) 02:10, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Tribe Magazine was in fact a notable nightlife magazine that was published for over 10 years.. Perhaps the section on the magazine itself should be expanded. --Eneufeld 02:29, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

While the above concerns about users are reasonable, the article is still young. Such infringing commentary is simply indicative of its infancy and residual of the initial novelty of a Wikipedia entry regarding Tribe Magazine. I think editing out the questionable points while allowing it to continue should be the method by which this article is dealt with. As well, the longevity and success of Tribe Magazine cannot be separated from the significance of its message board since a good portion of its content in the latter years, including reviews and photos, were contributed by various members of the message board to the print zine directly through it. This should be noted when clearing the entry of message board related material.

[edit] Referencing project

Previous talk comment complained about lack of sources, so I decided to do some digging. Please note that only notable sources will be directly linked to if found, although non-notable ones will get mentioned if there is a substancial number. Webforums are not counted as notable, however due to the significantly older history of usenet, newsgroups have been searched.

  • Existing references in article:
  • Google '"tribe magazine"' 10 pages of results No strong reference websites
    • Only 17,000 results.
    • However the editor of the magazine is repeatedly mentioned in many sources as he continues his journalistic work.
    • Many mentions on a lot of clubbing websites and DJs' websites, but none which appeared notable.
    • Also turned up a poetry magazine refering to itself with the same name, and tribe.net, a social networking site.
  • Google news '"tribe magazine" No results
  • Google groups '"tribe magazine" Lots of mentions
    • Popular amongst tribe magazine's target audience groups
    • Also found a hacking magazine with same name, and a roleplaying magazine.
  • Google links '"link:www.tribemagazine.com"' 19 results Poorly linked to
    • No major linking websites
  • Google links '"link:www.tribe.ca"' 19 results Poorly linked to
    • No major linking websites
  • Alexa traffic rank for www.tribemagazine.com (higher ranking than tribe.ca): 251,606
    • Poorly ranked although Alexa ranks above 100,000 have little actual meaning
  • Academic journals and resources
    • SwetsWise All variations "Tribe magazine" and URL No results
    • Additional resources not checked, unsure as to which resources to search.

From the above, I would say that tribe magazine certainly has some notoriety. If anyone knows of better means to hunt down media references, please give it a try. They may well have been mentioned by other news agencies. Ideally we would like more information establishing the hardcopy magazine, as this appears to be the more note-worthy part. I would then suggest culling the article to only what the references can support, and certainly removing the forum ban list and other aspects of vanity. LinaMishima 02:20, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
