Hey, theres lots of rumors that one day the MAX light rail will someday run over the I-205 bridge or I-5 bridge, should that be noted somewhere?

Some other things (JM):

  • The changes I did include putting Molalla under "system in city that left TriMet" proof and changing some of the city links
  • The Rider Insider history is not biased. Both the Westside MAX tunnel and the articulated buses had major problems
  • Is the Fareless Square page still a stub? The only things missing I can think of are usage and destinations
  • While some lines had service every 15 mins in 1998, the "Frequent Service" brand is more recent
  • How about their old & new slogans/logos?
  • It is technically the Portland Mall
  • Garages? The fact that their admin bldg is where the old streetcar barn was?

4) Yes, it is. But the amount of lines that had 15 minute service were very limited. I have all of the early bus schedules (dated to 98 or 99), and there were like 4 of them.

The thing is that the article (and TriMet) lists "Frequent Service" as starting in 1998. This is wrong; it should be started bus-every-15-min which became known as Frequent Service in 200x. Oh and '98 or '99 schedules are "recent". "Early" would be '70s :)

5) I think slogan changes are a GREAT idea. I know of a couple. "We're here to get you there." "How we get there matters" and "See where it takes you". I think there was 1 more... but I'd have to look it up as I can't remember it. That would probably be a good thing to add to the history section.

I have not heard of the first one, but I've only been back to Oregon for less than 10 years

6) Is what technically the Portland Mall?

5th & 6th Aves. Portland Mall is referenced on their revamp page (I say SUBWAY!) and on those signs on cross-streets. Another part is that I'd rather not have it refered to as the Portland Transit Mall

7) I think we ought to add Powell, Merlo, and Center garages.

I added the date significance to the captions of your pictures. And I'm not as "well educated" as I'd like to be. I'd like to start my own transit site including digitizing their big drawerful of old schedules and maps. So far I've been reading their stories in the Oregonan archives

Fixed a broken C-TRAN link (it was written C-Tran, which Wikipedia marks as not existing). I would have preferred to leave the visible text as it was, and alias it to the upper-case form, but it made more sense to make it work and be consistant now, and worry about style some other time. (There were a few other things that looked out-of-place, but that was the only thing just blatantly impossible to have been intended the way it was.)

Suggestion: Not that long ago, there was reportedly an attempt by either the FBI or Homeland Security to pressure TriMet to abandon Fareless Square on security grounds. Obviously it didn't happen in the end, but it may warrant a brief mention (provided solid references can be found) as that would not be a routine event in TriMet's history.

ObTrivia: TriMet's ticket machines run on Windows 3.1 and are apparently produced in Europe. I have absolutely no idea whatsoever if this can be verified, or if there is anywhere in the page suitable for trivia quite as meaningless as this, but it's here on the discussion page if anyone wants to see what they can do with it.

I remember reading a Portland Tribune(?) article where someone was agast that people could just board a bus or train. Not that a fare is needed for an officer to check someone. As for the ticket machines, see Flikr.
Also, I am removing the critisim about the bus mall slowing travel times. While the Portland Mall can be slow-going due to passenger loading and traffic signal timing, I do not know what they could do to make it better. Furthermore, there are crosstown lines that avoid downtown and it will not necessarily be better in 2009 since buses are to wait for MAX trains. Jason McHuff 21:20, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

TriMet serves the cities of Kelso and Boring. See line 84 - Kelso/Boring here.

TriMet also serves Sandy, Oregon as well, despite that they dropped out (like Wilsonville). TriMet serves 1 bus stop outside of it's service district at SE Kelso Rd & SE Bluff Rd. Go here, and type in Stop ID 485.

Also see Stop 7124, well into Wilsonville (=outside of the district). However, this really doesn't qualify as serving Wilsonville; it merily goes there to turn around and to connect to SMART. And is Kelso actually a city? P.S: The MAX page is a mess. Jason McHuff 20:25, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Kelso is a city in SW Washington in Cowlitz County, about 50 mi N or Portland. However, Kelso, Oregon, is a community SE of Portland that I've seen mentioned on highway guide signs on US 26 on the way to Mt. Hood; however, I've never been there, so I don't know if it's just a wide place in the road or an actual community with some services. 4.243.206.185 19:13, 3 December 2006 (UTC)


FYI, I have been working on a page of Portland transit links and diagrams. I am hoping to soon turn it into a site with old photos, schedules, etc. It is somewhat inspired by [2]. I've begun destroying the criticisms section and merging it into the rest of the article. The article kinda sucks, so the article as a whole needs to be expanded while we work on removing the criticisms section.
