TRIO!
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
TRIO! was an acoustic jazz fusion supergroup, formed in mid 2005. It consisted of bassist Stanley Clarke (Return to Forever), jazz violin virtuoso Jean-Luc Ponty (The Mothers of Invention, Mahavishnu Orchestra), and renowned banjoist Béla Fleck, whose acclaimed group Béla Fleck and the Flecktones was on a one year hiatus.
Much of the material performed by TRIO! is from the Rite of Strings album. Bela Fleck and his banjo have replaced Al Di Meola and his guitar.
The band toured the East Coast between May and October of 2005, as well as playing dates in Canada, Spain, Switzerland and The Netherlands and performing at numerous jazz festivals, including the Newport Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, and the JVC Festival in Los Angeles. The group was a side project for all three members, and as Fleck has gone back on tour with the Flecktones to promote their album The Hidden Land, the group has disbanded.
