Rare government image of J. Robert Oppenheimer (in light colored hat with foot on tower rubble), General Leslie Groves (large man in military dress to Oppenheimer's left), and others at the ground zero site of the Trinity test after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (some time after the actual test). It should be noted that most photographs of this event available are taken by wire press sources and are not public domain; this one however is in the public domain as a government photograph.

Image taken from http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/279 and cropped and saved to a more appropriate file format.

Public domain This image is a work of a United States Department of Energy (or predecessor organization) employee, taken or made during the course of an employee's official duties. As a work of the U.S. federal government, the image is in the public domain.
