User talk:Trey Nitrotoluene

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi, Trey Nitrotoluene - I noticed your comment on the WP:BITE discussion page, and thought I'd drop you a line: first, to say "Welcome!" and second to respond to what you wrote. Not knowing anything about the article you were in the process of writing or about the manner in which Jaranda deleted it, I can't say much about your specific case. If the subject of your article was obscure, as you say, Jaranda may not have been able to find much or any information about it online, which made its accuracy and/or notability seem dubious. To deal with questions of accuracy, citing plenty of references is key. As for notability, well, some things just aren't notable, and there's not much to be done about that - though as I say, I don't know if that applies to your subject.

One possibility, if a subject isn't very notable but is still very interesting to you, is to try to incorporate it into an existing article, rather than creating a new article. The information may still get deleted if it's VERY obscure and other people don't think it's relevant, but on the other hand, your unique knowledge may really improve what's already been written.

Also, to avoid a nascent article getting deleted at a stage when it looks incomplete but will be fleshed out, I know that somewhere there's a template you can put at the top of an article, saying that it's in progress, which can also be useful - I'll see if I can track it down for you.

Finally, remember in situations like this that admins, anti-vandalism editors, and others who patrol the Recent Changes log see a lot of bogus pages that should be deleted. (Take a look at today's articles up for deletion to see what I mean.) When faced with all those articles, it can get hard to tell the good from the bad. Much as it's important for admins to not get trigger-happy in deleting articles, it's also important to assume good faith on the part of those same admins.

Anyway, I'm sorry your Wikipedia experiences so far have been marred by this, but hopefully it'll get better from here. Don't get discouraged!

See you around.

Hi again! I just got your message. A couple things you could do include:
  • Leave a message on Jaranda's talk page and ask him for feedback. Since you didn't see a reason for his deletion (there may have been one somewhere, but sometimes stuff like that isn't obvious unless you click through a bunch of links), just let him know that you were curious about the specifics of the decision.
  • Leave a message on the talk page of the Apep article. The people who have edited it may know about Sebau and have ideas about how your knowledge could be included. Since "Sebau" was redlinked on that page, clearly someone thought it was noteworthy, so they may have advice or want to collaborate.
Good luck in finding out more. Have fun editing!
