James Lewis "Trey" Lunsford is a catcher who was last seen in the San Francisco Giants farm system. Born on May 25, 1979 in Odessa, Texas, Lunsford attended Central High School in San Angelo, Texas, then went to Grayson County College before transferring to Texas Tech University.

Registered at 6'1", 195 pounds, Lunsford was originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 37th round of the 1998 draft (1096th overall). He decided not to sign. In 2000, he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 33rd round of the draft (991st overall). This time, he decided to sign.

Being only a mediocre minor leaguer (he has hit a subpar .253 in the minors), Lunsford still managed to find a way into the Major Leagues. On September 12, 2002, Lunsford made his Major League debut at the age of 23, without ever playing higher than the single-A level. In his first Major League at-bat, Lunsford singled in the 10th inning off Trevor Hoffman. In three games in 2002, he collected two hits in three at-bats, with one double, one RBI and a strikeout. In 2003, he appeared in one game as a pinch hitter/defensive replacement. He went 0 for 1 and caught the last two innings of the game. Overall, he has hit .500 in 4 at-bats in the big leagues.

As a fielder, he has committed one error for a .800 fielding percentage, although it is difficult to assess his defense, with Lunsford having only 5 total chances.

Lunsford is or has been a teammate of Jason Ellison, Dan Trumble and Luke Anderson for 5 years, longer than any other teammates.
Lunsford had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in March of 2006.
In 2002, Lunsford earned $200,000. In 2003, he earned $300,000.
His number has been 52 for the Giants.
Lunsford participated in the 2002 Arizona Fall League, playing with the Grand Canyon Rafters.
He started the 2002 season late because he fractured the hamate bone in his hand.
In 2003, his promising season was cut short by a sprained right thumb. It eventually needed surgery, which was performed by Dr. Gordon Brody.
