Trevor Porritt

Trevor Porritt (born May 24, 1961 in Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a former field hockey player from Canada, who became consumed with field hockey in 1967 when his father was the chair of the organizing committee for the Pan Am Games field hockey tournament. He credited his father with introducing him to the game, helping him develop his skills and encouraging him to take his game to the elite level.

Porritt was a member of Manitoba’s junior team (1973-1980) and served as captain. In 1976, he began playing for the senior team representing the province at all tournaments from 1976-1991 (except 1988). He was also selected to play for Canada’s national junior team in a series of matches against the United States.

Porritt made his international senior debut for the Men's National Team in 1980 during a visit in the United Kingdom and Ireland. A year later he was a member of Canada’s junior Pan Am Games team, where he scored two goals in the gold-medal match against Chile.

Vice-captain of Canada’s national junior team in the 1982 Hockey World Cup in Malaysia, Porritt was simultaneously a member of Canada’s senior team and competed in two major international tournaments with that side. A two-time Olympian, Porritt listed his appearances with Team Canada in 1984 in Los Angeles and 1988 in Seoul among his career highlights, but notes his favorite memory was winning gold for Canada in the 1983 Pan American Games in Caracas, Venezuela. Porritt was the tournament’s top scorer and scored the winning goal for Canada in the gold medal final against Argentina. They captured Pan Am Gold again in 1987.

Inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in 2000.
