[edit] Playing career
Daley was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, 43rd overall, in the second round. A defenceman, he played for the Stars in 81 games during the 2005–06 season and was named to the Canadian squad for the 2006 World Championships. He has been playing regularly for the Stars since the 2006–07 season.
[edit] Juniors
Daley was the captain of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, an Ontario Hockey League team.
In March of 2003, the coach and general manager of the team, John Vanbiesbrouck (a retired NHL goalie), admitted he used a racial slur to describe Daley to other players.
Daley quit the team and returned home to Toronto the following Saturday, after being told that Vanbiesbrouck used the slur while talking to other players.
Vanbiesbrouck apologized and resigned his positions as coach and general manager, saying that he would sell his 25% ownership stake in the team immediately. "I used the N-word instead of calling him Trevor," Vanbiesbrouck told the Sault Ste. Marie Star on Sunday. "I used it just not thinking."
