Treejumping

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Treejumping is a form of military parachuting, in which paratroops are dropped into a forest or jungle – generally, from a relatively low altitude. While civilians could treejump, it is highly unadvisable since it is generally considered to be a particularly dangerous form of parachuting. Treejumping is also especially damaging to the parachuting equipment. In the modern US Army, there is one platoon of Combat Engineers, Bravo Company of the 27th Engineer Battalion, trained to intentionally jump into forested areas in order to create drop zones for follow on forces.

Smokejumpers train and equip themselves for tree landings.
