[edit] History
Tree2mydoor was founded by one University of Teesside graduate - Gareth Mitchell. After spending three years developing the concept of sending trees as gifts, Gareth launched Tree2mydoor during National Tree Week in November 2003. Within ten months Tree2mydoor had won a Gift of the Year Award and made it to the finals of the Startups Awards 2004 for Best Online Business of the Year. [1] [2]
[edit] Future Plans
Tree2mydoor plans to expand into Europe in the immediate future and into North America, Asia and Australasia thereafter. The short term focus is on increasing revenues from the United Kingdom gift market.
[edit] The Tree2mydoor Ethos
Tree2mydoor claims to be set up "to directly support conservation projects in the United Kingdom and around the World." [3] A section on the company website details its programmes on charity work, procuring ethically, procuring locally, and work encourage consumers to live more sustainably.
[edit] Tree Gifts
Tree gifts are Tree2mydoor's primary product. Tree2mydoor trees are grown in the United Kingdom and in Europe for supply to local markets around the British Isles.
Native British tree species, such as Oak trees and Rowan trees are grown locally and supplied to local customers with accompanying personalised greeting card, each tree is presented in a mail order gift box and are suitable for outdoor planting. Pot grown trees, such as Olive trees and Lemon trees are grown in Europe and are best suited for indoor growing in Conservatories.
Tree2mydoor Tree Gifts are ordered by customers via the www.tree2mydoor.com e-commerce website or from retail outlets nationally.
Tree gifts are sent by Royal Mail for standard deliveries or by a national courier firm for next day deliveries.
[edit] Wildflower Gifts
Tree2mydoor has a gift range called the In a Bag Wildflower Gifts. The range comprises two colourful wildflower seed mixes, packed into individual jute drawstring bags with colour coded gift tags.
[edit] Packaging
Tree2mydoor designed new purpose made mail order boxes made from one piece cardboard sheets. Every box is biodegradable and is designed to protect trees and plants whilst in transit.
All mail order boxes are cut from one sheet of cardboard with slots that allow greetings cards to be added without the use of adhesives, plastic or extra packaging.
[edit] Tree2mydoor Conservation Partners
Tree2mydoor has been working with Fauna and Flora International to support fundraising and raise awareness to help protect endangered trees and forests around the world as part of their Global Trees Campaign project. Tree2mydoor has offered customers the opportunity to ‘dedicate a tree’ in a FFI managed conservation project of their choice since December 2004. Once the customer buys the product, the team at FFI send them a gift pack by post. FFI receive the money raised from the sale of the product by BACS payment on a quarterly basis. [4] Tree2mydoor hope to expand the amount of conservation partners in 2008.
