Treaty of Barwald

The Treaty of Barwald was signed on January 23, 1631 between France (represented by Cardinal Richelieu) and Sweden. Based on the terms of the treaty, France and Sweden established an alliance against the Holy Roman Empire. Moreover, the accord dictated that France pay Sweden an annual subsidy of one million livres in order to maintain the alliance.
