[edit] New Dying Fetus Drummer, Please Don't Delete Article

A noteworthy death-metal band (DF) has undergone a change in personell, and I was just creating the article so that people could read and know about it. It's apparently something that's just happened. I'm confused, however... How does it not "assert the importance" of itself? It's a personell lineup change! Dark Executioner 23:06, 21 July 2007 (UTC)Dark Executioner

You would have to consult the template wizards for the reasons that "assert the importance" is in the templates. I just try to use the correct templates. You have ONE sentence that simple says he is now in the band, with no citations or other relevence that makes the entry noteworthy. This should probably be added to the main article about the band as there is already a previous/current band member section for that in that article. So far, the only thing "notable" he has done is join the band. In short, what you have here is a press release, and Wikipedia isn't a blog, via WP:NOT#BLOG nor a list of persons per WP:NOT#DIR nor a news site. It isn't personal, it is just that it would better be a paragraph in the band's article and isn't actually an "article". Pharmboy 23:22, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Sorry if I sound irritated. If Wikipedia had been around in the 1980s, for example, when Black Sabbath got a new member, some user would probably create an article for that person. We might not have more than a sentence or 2 about him at the time, but fans would probably want to know a little about that particular person. If you know of a place where we can find more info about Trey, then by all means let's make this page a bit fuller! Dark Executioner 16:05, 22 July 2007 (UTC)Dark Executioner

I totally agree with Dark Executioner. Leave the page as it is. More info will be availible in time. 68.219.11.121 16:27, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

The article needs to be left as it is, Pharmboy. I wasn't nessicarily surprised to see that Dying Fetus got a new member, but I did find this information very useful. I'm writing a biography on the band, and I've just gotten to War of Attrition. The info with Trey Williams will go into my report. And, if I happen to come across any extra info, I'll put it here. Yall take care! Truedown 16:50, 22 July 2007 (UTC)Truedown

[edit] Merge

At this point, the best I can see is to merge this one sentence into the main article of the band. It simply isn't an article in and of itself. Pharmboy 23:24, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

That wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. A random fan who sees Trey Williams listed as a current member would probably be interested in learning what happened to Duane Timlin. Let's just leave the article as it is. This way, people can learn a little about him. If I happen to stumble across any more information, I'll be sure to put it here in my own words. Dark Executioner 16:01, 22 July 2007 (UTC)Dark Executioner

Which is what the article is for. Having the info spread over several articles is not better than having the info in one place. And why would you have the "fate" of Duane Timlin in an article about Trey Williams anyway? Outside of the context of the band, they have no meaning, thus the info belongs in the entry of the BAND where the information has context. Pharmboy 17:47, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

So, have we reached a verdict? Dark Executioner 13:33, 24 July 2007 (UTC)Dark Executioner

The verdict would be to either merge or AFD for delete. It is too short to be an article, and is a "factoid" only. Pharmboy 00:32, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Uh, have you seen how short some album pages are? They were never nominated for deletion. Let's not forget the pages for the other DF members. Look how short they are! Let's just drop this stupid argument, leave the article as it is, and move on. Dark Executioner 14:37, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Dark Executioner

[edit] Do not delete content on an articles talk page

This entire talk page was restored. Removing the discussion of a merge is considered bad judgement in the least, and is absolutely counter to policy. You don't remove the TALK section of any article, EVER, tou archive it when a consensus is reached if needed, but that has not happened yet. You can't just "decide" it is a consensus. It may be considered bad faith as well. You didn't raise the merge issue to withdraw it, and a one week deadline is not policy. As a matter of fact, policy is the opposite. Some merge discussions may go on for months. Please take the time to look around and read the actual policies on Wikipedia before making up your own. Pharmboy 17:30, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

I put the article up for afd or merge and would let the community decide if these couple of lines are encyclopedia article worthy. This way we can be sure what the consensus is, as not enough people visit this one page to build a consensus. Pharmboy 21:00, 5 August 2007 (UTC) Quick note: More info on Trey Williams. Born in Vincenza, Italy. january 5th 1979. Lived in Fayetteville,North Carolina, before settling in Maryland. Drumming has been his dream since he was 5 years old. Learned to play Drums on his own. No help from anyone. More info at a latter date.

Good start. Now what you need is

1. Facts like these that are relevent.
2. web addresses to reliable sources that say these things (sources).
3. The same info for other members of the band.
4. merge this into the main band's webpage giving each member their own section.

Result: A kick ass and expanded article on the current and past members, and not 12 tiny articles. AND if any one member's section gets big enough with real and things more than just related to the one band, THEN YOU MAKE A SEPARATE ARTICLE based on that section. Policy is all about doing it this way. Right now, the main article Dying Fetus has just a list of the members past and present with no info, so we know nothing about them. *IF* you put info like you just gave us in that article, under each name, then it would make the article so much stronger. People will help, even me, if you ASK. Also, in the main article, you show Trey as FORMER, not current. Pharmboy 23:47, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

I am proposing we change Mike Kimball and Sean Beasley to a redirect to Dying Fetus, as was done with Trey's, and that the John Gallagher's article stay because he was the founder, (although more material needs to be found to include in his article). This is to concentrate the info in the main article, as per all the dicussions on the AFD for Trey, and the talks we have all had over the last month. Will post this on both articles and wait a few days before doing anything. I am guessing it won't be controversial. If someone finds enough material to make a complete article at a later date, it can easily be changed back. Otherwise it is a AFD candidate and it is just easier if we just create a concensus and redirect instead. Pharmboy 00:46, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

I put the above comment on the Kimball and Beasley articles, and include a copy here for completeness, so as to keep this in the open and quickly get a consensus. Pharmboy 00:46, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
