[edit] Why the name dropping?

What encyclopedic purpose is there to including a list of non-notable people in this school's article? School district administrators?! Why not a list of phone numbers and e-mail addresses too? No wait, let me guess, all school district articles have a list of administrators. More than one section of the WP:NOT policy explains why such a list is quite inappropriate: WP:DIRECTORY and WP:INDISCRIMINATE - maybe others too. —Wknight94 (talk) 20:57, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

  • Neither of the proffered excuses for removing information are relevant here: WP:DIRECTORY addresses articles that are purely of directory details, specifying Lists or repositories of loosely associated topics such as (but not limited to) quotations, aphorisms, or persons (real or fictional), Genealogical entries or phonebook entries, Directories, directory entries, electronic program guide, or a resource for conducting business and Sales catalogs and Non-encyclopedic cross-categorizations. Nothing listed is even close. As to WP:INDISCRIMINATE, (which explicitly mentions Lists of Frequently Asked Questions, Plot summaries, Lyrics databases, Statistics and News reports), these are rather well-defined groupings of people who are responsible for the operation of the school system. As with a Mayor and council in an article about a town, or key executives in an article about a notable company, these individuals are notable, and serve a distinctly encyclopedic purpose.
