I am working on a full translation of the article; it should be done within the next couple of days. However, once completed it will need to be wikified and any stylistic changes from French to English will need to be made by the community. ~Anne Elizabeth 20:00, 27 December 2006 (GMT)

Other notes
Keep in mind that this article is not the same as Hellenistic Greece, as this involves all the Hellenistic world, while that one regards only Greece in its today borders. See also Talk:Hellenistic Greece.--Aldux 17:39, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
What about Hellenistic civilisation? Since Hellenistic period is introduced in a more French encyclopedic style which lacks precise definition, and my not being a historian, I'm struggling to pinpoint the difference. It certainly seems strange that they don't even refer to each other except in the "See also". BigBlueFish 20:32, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
I wouldn't be against merging the two articles; what is important that the French article clearly outlines the history of the period, while the English Hellenistic civilisation is far too vague. Maybe, the best thing would be if the French article was fully translated, and I can after proceed to the merge.--Aldux 16:25, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

It's the football collaboration of the week. Michel Platini is one of the best football (soccer) players ever and this article in English Wikipedia was very poor. I'm afraid of translating it without properly incorporating into the English article. Maybe translating the whole article into Michel Platini/Translation and after it's done incorporating it into the English article would be better. Just a suggestion.
I'm going to give it a go, or at least attempt to merge the two articles. I've done a few other football-related translations, so as such it won't be a first attempt. Klingklang 15:36, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
OK, it's done at last. The translation I've done is pretty comprehensive, but we're talking about one of the greatest football players ever so I don't think that it's entirely inappropriate that the article should be a long one. Klingklang 01:03, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Is this needed considering most (if not all) of the information is included in Spectroscopy? Please elaborate. --Storkk 23:29, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

This article is concentrated on hydrogen, whereas spectroscopy is not. reg. Mion 21:42, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

The hydrogen spectrum is composed of all the wavelengths present in the light that the hydrogen atom is capable of emitting. This spectrum is composed of discrete wavelength with values given by the Rydberg formula.

Interpretation

hydrogen is the first atom in mandeleiev table, it is composed of 1 atom and 1 electron. The electron energy in barycentric referential can only take some discrete values called energy level(see Bohr model). When the electron goes from one high energy level to a lower one, it sends a photon with an energy that is equal to the difference between the two levels. So the light can only take discrete values, and it is called its spectrum.

As everything is said in the Rydberg formula article, I don't think this article is really usefull --bloublou 22:34, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

I think i fell for the sound title compared to .....formula, (not saying anything about the articles ), if you say it doesn't add anything, (how can a shoepolisher know ?) i agree on deleting the request. reg. Mion 19:54, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

I have designed this so the French article would be translated into English, copyedited, and then merged into the main English article. I have also notified the French Wikipedia.

This is an on-going personal project for which I would appreciate any help I can get.The French articles on science fiction have content which is original, interesting and quite different from related English content.I am trying to bring that material over to the English Wikipedia by adding content about Anglo-American and global science fiction to the relevant English pages, and by creating a set of new pages - a sort of micropedia - around French language science fiction in particular, with the article French science fiction acting as a hub. Also, this content should be referenced back to the French wikipedia and where it reveals gaps on the French side, stubs and translations ought to go up on the French side.

If this sounds interesting to you and you can translate, just go over to French science fiction or to the French wikipedia and dive in, or if you can't translate, copy-edit and peer review translated articles.

I'd like to have a go. This is my first translation for Wikipedia though, so I might need help with the Wikification. Phillipmackin, 23rd March 2006
Notes
Was this ever a featured article? There's no indication of it that I can see. In any event I've translated some parts of it. The English language article was originally a translation of the German article Straßburger Münster. The French article was developed later, from an unknown source. Actually in doing the translation I'm losing confidence in the reliability of some of the details in the French-language article because the dates do not line up precisely with those in "Archbishops of Strasbourg". Anyone who wants to have a look at my translation please do because my French is not great. In particular the work I did translating the "legends" section might need to be fixed because some of it didn't make much sense to me e.g. ("s'enfonçant dans les eaux d'un lac souterrain"). --Mathew5000 21:24, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Did I put it in the featured article section? If I did it was a complete mistake.I am going to try to get some nice pictures of the cathedral from my aunt who lives in Strasbourg. gren グレン 18:03, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] France stubs

Articles about France which are stubs on the English Wikipedia are likely to have substantive articles on the French Wikipedia. This makes them prime candidates for translation. You can see a complete subcategorized list at Category:France stubs.

[edit] Recently completed translations

[edit] Instructions for Proofreaders

Remember that a "completed" translation can always be improved by people who do not speak the language from which it was translated — if you enjoy copyediting, browse these articles and tidy up any unnatural-sounding language which might have slipped in.Once pages have been polished enough, please delete them from this list. You can alternatively insert comments on this page, for example say that you've checked over the article or describe what needs to be done to fix it.

Things these articles may need done to them besides proofreading:

  • In the bibliography, add an entry such as "* This page draws heavily on [[:fr:Name of French article]] article in the French-language Wikipedia, which was accessed in the version of (date) ", replacing "Name of French article" and (date) as appropriate.Note that others may edit the article, so don't say "this is an exact translation of ..." because that may not be true for long.
  • At the very end of the article, add [[fr:Name of French article]].This creates a link in the sidebar to the French version of the article.See for example how this is done in the article Derveni krater.
    • Similarly, create sidebar links to equivalent articles in other languages, if you know of any.
    • Also go onto the French Wikipedia and put a sidebar link to the English version.
  • Search for synonyms, and if no such pages exist, create redirects to the new page.(If such pages exist, curse yourself for not having done that search before staring the translation!:-)
  • Search for pages on related topics and add links in their "See Also" section.

You want people to read what you just translated, right? There need to be links or few people will find the page.

    • Also put links to those articles, as appropriate, in the "See Also" in the new page. Lots of redirects and lots of "See Also" links

also help avoid having people write redundant articles without knowing there's already a similar article.

New entries should go at the top:

OK, it's up as a regular article: Hellenistic Art. Several people have been polishing it and adding links just in the last 12 hours or so!--Coppertwig 16:46, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Other notes

But wait, isn't Art in Ancient Greece the article you are looking for?

No, this is a more specific article and doesn't trascurate, as the article you speak of, the hellenistic phase. Also keep in mind that the distinction Ancient/hellenistic is also in the history articles, with Ancient Greece and Hellenistic Greece.--Aldux 11:43, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
This article doesn't seem to have much luck: the two previous editors, Bridesmill and Jon Cates, appear to have left at least for the moment wikipedia. I hope that somebody will take on and complete the work started by Jon Cates at Hellenistic Art/Translation sandbox.--Aldux 16:45, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Note that the "corresponding English-language article" at the moment only contains about the first 3 paragraphs of this article.I'm in the process of translating the rest of the article.--Coppertwig 15:16, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
