Mostly, I am a martial-arts guy; I train in Aikido under Mitsugi Saotome Sensei at his Washington, DC dojo, and as I have come to view Aikido as a meta-martial art I do miscellaneous cross-training in other styles and disciplines as time and budget allow. Lately I have been working on the first five kata of the Ono-ha Itto Ryu, which were taught by Kaiwa Sensei in the summer of 2007 at the ASU DC Summer Camp. I'd love to become a real practitioner of that art but I am going to have to find a way to move to Japan first, I think.

I was a network engineer for 8 years, then went back to school to finish my abandoned Computer Science degree, discovered that I love code, and now I am a software engineer for a company in Maryland.

I enjoy machines that are fast.

I enjoy electronic music of various kinds.

I read a lot of fantasy and science fiction, and am a particular fan of Gene Wolfe and David Zindell, two truely great authors who don't have nearly the popularity they deserve, either inside or outside of fans of genre.
