Traver is a census-designated place (CDP) in Tulare County, California, United States. The population was 732 at the 2000 census.

Traver is located at 36°27′15″N, 119°29′3″W (36.454300, -119.484182)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2.1 km²), all of it land.

[edit] Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 732 people, 173 households, and 155 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 890.6 people per square mile (344.7/km²). There were 182 housing units at an average density of 221.4/sq mi (85.7/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 53.28% White, 2.32% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 41.94% from other races, and 2.32% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 75.41% of the population.

There were 173 households out of which 53.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.6% were married couples living together, 20.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 10.4% were non-families. 5.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 4.23 and the average family size was 4.12.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 37.4% under the age of 18, 12.2% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 14.3% from 45 to 64, and 8.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 25 years. For every 100 females there were 105.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 115.0 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $24,500, and the median income for a family was $22,750. Males had a median income of $17,188 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $7,642. About 23.5% of families and 33.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 50.2% of those under age 18 and 7.4% of those age 65 or over.

In the state legislature Traver is located in the 16th Senate District, represented by Democrat Dean Florez, and in the 30th Assembly District, represented by Democrat Nicole Parra. Federally, Traver is located in California's 21st congressional district, which has a Cook PVI of R +13[3] and is represented by Republican Devin Nunes.
